Representatives from the ECOWAS Federation, Gambia Chapter on Tuesday 14th November 2023 paid a courtesy call on the Vice President of The Gambia, Mohammed B.S Jallow at the State House in Banjul.
The meeting primarily focused on women’s empowerment and its crucial role in both national and international development initiatives and also marked a palpable spirit of collaboration and shared commitment to advancing gender equality and empowerment.
Ms. Ellen Johnson, the Secretary General of the ECOWAS Federation, Gambia Chapter, expressed her satisfaction in meeting Vice President Jallow, adding that the meeting availed them the opportunity to discuss issues of mutual interest.
She articulated the purpose of their visit as twofold: to convey best wishes to the Vice President and to acquaint him with the ECOWAS Federation’s mission, initiatives, and ongoing activities. Ms. Johnson further used the opportunity to underscore the importance of fostering partnerships and raising awareness about the ECOWAS Federation’s impactful work.
On his part, Vice President Jallow reassured the representatives of the full support of The Gambia Government in furthering women empowerment initiatives for the enhancement of national development efforts.
He added that the commitment reflects the government’s recognition of the pivotal role women play in the socio-economic progress of the nation. Finally, he highlighted the significance of collaboration between The Gambia and the ECOWAS Federation.
