The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Lamin Jabbie, recently spearheaded a high-level meeting with the Ministry of Fisheries and Water Resources.
The meeting focused on integrating data systems to digitise the operations of the fisheries sector, a key pillar of the nation’s economy.
Hon. Musa Drammeh, Minister of Fisheries and Water Resources, highlighted the fisheries sector’s critical role in driving economic growth and ensuring food security. He emphasised that improved data management would enhance efficiency, eliminate redundancies, and streamline government operations thereby contribute to national development.
The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy lauded the initiative, calling it a significant step towards modernising critical sectors for better service delivery. He underscored the importance of fostering collaboration to achieve shared national goals.
Director of Fisheries, Anna Mbenga Cham, highlighted the challenges faced by her ministry, and stressed the need for accurate and reliable data to improve decision-making and enhance information sharing. Cham also identified existing gaps while highlighting the ministry’s achievements, noting that integrated digital systems would address many of the sector’s pressing issues.
Various speakers at the meeting underscored their respective roles in achieving the collaboration’s objectives. They collectively expressed optimism that this initiative would not only modernise the fisheries sector but also set a precedent for inter-ministerial cooperation across various government institutions.
This collaborative effort signals a shift toward digital transformation in public administration, aiming to create a more efficient, data-driven, and transparent government. The integration of digital tools in fisheries management is expected to yield significant benefits, including improved monitoring, better resource allocation, and enhanced accountability.
