His Excellency Adama Barrow last week joined several heads of state to grace the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect John Dramani Mahama, commencing his second term as the fourth President of the Republic of Ghana.
Upon his return, President Adama Barrow and his delegation were received at the Banjul International Airport by the Vice President Mohammed BS Jallow, several ministers and security chiefs.
President Barrow told the waiting press that the inauguration ceremony was attended by world leaders; not African leaders alone.
He described Ghana as a very important country in Africa and a founding member of ECOWAS. He said as the policy of ECOWAS is promoting democracy, “we have seen that Ghana’s democracy is progressing; they have been consolidating democracy for 32 years now”.
He expressed good impression about the peaceful transfer of power among different political parties and leaders. This, he indicated, is a demonstration of a growing democracy which needs to be supported. “Thus, we were there to give our support”.
President Adama Barrow went on to posit that government is about continuity and not about personalities. “We had a very good working relationship with Nana Akufo Ado. John Dramani Mahama left at the time I immediately came to power. Our relationship is not about individual but is about the country”.
President Barrow’s attendance signifies his conviction in strengthening regional peace and stability as well as trade and economic progress.
Also in attendance were Presidents Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria, Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal, Willaim Ruto of Kenya, Ibrahim Traore of Burkina Faso, Brice Oligui Nguema of Gabon, Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo, among others.
