On Friday, 10th December, His Excellency, Vice President Mohammed B.S. Jallow, led a high-level delegation to Ndemban Clinic on behalf of H.E. President Adama Barrow and the Government of The Gambia. The visit was aimed at showing support to the victims of the tragic accident that occurred in Kafuta Village, Kombo East, which claimed the lives of three people and left dozens injured.
The delegation’s purpose was two-fold: to assess the conditions of the injured patients and provide government support, and to extend condolences and solidarity to the bereaved families and the community of Kafuta. This visit underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to the well-being of every Gambian citizen.
The delegation included notable government officials such as:
Honourable Mod Ceesay, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Chief of Staff; Honourable Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, Minister of Information, Media, and Broadcasting Services; Honourable Dr. Ahmadou Samateh, Minister of Health; Honourable Bakary Badjie, Minister of Youth and Sports; the Governor of the West Coast Region; the National Assembly Member for the area, among other dignitaries.
Following the visit to the clinic, VP Jallow and the delegation proceeded to Kafuta Village, where they met with community elders to express the government’s heartfelt condolences and solidarity during this difficult time.
Speaking at the gathering, VP Jallow highlighted the government’s deep concern over the tragic loss of lives and the injuries sustained in the accident. He reiterated President Barrow’s commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of all Gambians, stating:
“His Excellency, President Adama Barrow, during yesterday’s cabinet meeting, assigned this delegation to visit the victims and their families. As a government, we are deeply saddened by this tragedy. The loss of any Gambian life is a loss for all of us. We stand with the people of Kafuta in this moment of grief.”
VP Jallow further assured the community that the government would work with the National Roads Authority to implement preventive measures, such as the installation of speed bumps, to reduce accidents in the area.
The elders of Kafuta and the families of the victims expressed gratitude to the government for its support and for sending a high-level delegation to stand in solidarity with them during this trying time.
The Government of The Gambia reaffirms its commitment to protecting lives and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
