The Human Resources Development Division under the Personnel Management Office (PMO) of the Ministry of Public Service (MoPS) has oriented 46 Gambia Government Scholarship awardees including those currently overseas, on the conditions of the Award.
The locally-based awardees were oriented physically in a form of powerpoint presentation, while those in overseas went through online orientation on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at PMO’s conference hall in Banjul.
Speaking at the event, Director, Human Resources Development Division, Mr. Geoffrey Mousa Bala Gaye, said the orientation was the first of its kind to be organised by PMO, and that the exercise came at a right time for the students. This, he believes, will guide them in their programmes.
“It will also make them familiarise themselves with what my office is doing in relations to awarding scholarship to active civil servants,” Mr. Gaye stated.
He advised the awardees to send their progress report at the end of every semester to PMO. This, he explained, will help the office make sure the students are on the right track.
Mr. Gaye advised the awardees to select thesis/dissertation topics on current and emerging issues relevant to their respective sectors.
The Principal Personal Officer at the Human Resources Development Division, Mrs. Binta Jabang-Manjang, affirmed that there are 46 awardees from all Government sectors, out of which, 16 are overseas on full scholarship pursuing their programmes in different fields of their choices, while 8 are on stipend-support overseas.
Following the presentation, there was question and answer session, in which awardees sought advice and clarifications relating to their programmes.
The awardees appreciated and commended PMO through the office of the Human Resources Development Division for the initiative.
