Skill Workers Association Donates D65,000 Towards Gov’t’s COVID-19 Fight

Gambia Mechanical and Skill Workers Association on Wednesday, May 3rd presented a donation of D65,000 to Her Excellency the Vice President Dr. Isatou Touray at her office in Banjul. The group said the donation is to complement government’s efforts in the fight against COVID-19.

The Vice President Dr. Isatou Touray on behalf of the President Barrow and the government thanked the skill workers for their great show of patriotism. This may be small to you but for us is a big thing. The money will be used as intended,” she assured.

She urged members of the association to continue supporting children and the young people in the country who are interested in the work as they are doing a good and important work.

She then thanked members of the association for observing as well as implementing government and WHO COVID-19 preventive measures, and promised that government will continue to support the association.

Babucarr Lowe, President of the Gambia Mechanical and Skill Workers’ Association despite the promptness, members did express appreciation and interest about the initiative as soon as it was called, and that within a short period of time it was able to raise D65,000 as their contribution in the fight against COVID 19.

He affirmed that the move was meant as an answer to the call of President Barrow and the government for everyone to join the fight against COVID-19 in the country. He said they have scaled down their workers at the workshop in compliance with government and WHO advice on COVID-19 prevention.

Biram Sarr, Secretary General of the Gambia Mechanical and Skill Workers Association remarked: “This is a disease that is affecting not only the Gambia but the world. Therefore, we decided to come together and contribute our quota in the fight against COVID 19”.

Sarr used the occasion to call on parents not to leave their children idle; rather they should engage them in something meaningful.

Dawda Ceesay, Permanent Secretary, Office of the Vice President thanked the Association for responding to the call of President Barrow in fight against the pandemic. He described the association as a united and organised.
