The Minister of Health Ahmed Lamin Samateh, accompanied by high powered delegation from his ministry on Tuesday night, March 3rd traveled to the border village of Amdali in North Bank Region.
The emergency visit was meant to strengthen the capacity of the border health post following news of Corona virus case in Senegal.
Speaking to Journalists after being led to a conducting tour the border area and the isolation centre set up there, the minister acknowledged that it is challenging times, especially now that the outbreak has got to our neighbor, Senegal. We were all along concerned but we are now more concerned, despite making lots of efforts. Our coming here is a continuation of efforts to improve what has already done”.
Mr Samateh praised the health workers for their tireless efforts, while assuring that mechanisms are in place at the borders that ensure anyone entering the country passes through medical screening.
The minister then crossed over to the Senegalese territory to meet Ahmed Badjan, a Senegalese health officer at the Amdalai border to share thoughts and ideas in combating the Corona virus. He expressed solidarity with Senegal, assuring that the two countries will work as collective and as family.
The Health minister took the opportunity to advice people to desist from spreading rumors, particular on such sensitive matters, of which they have no expert knowledge.
For the Director of Health Promotion and Education Unit, Modou Njai, the general public is urged to collaborate with health officials in combating the epidemic.
