The Permanent Secretary (PS), Reforms, at the Ministry of Public Service (MoPS), Sheriff Jallow has revealed to Gambia Daily that his ministry, in collaboration with the Accountant General Department, is developing a Human Resource (HR) and payroll data warehouse where Microsoft Power BI Analytics can be applied for advanced and highly customised HR and payroll data analytics.
The Permanent Secretary was speaking on the sidelines of the commencement of a five-day training of officers from the Personnel Management Office, under the Ministry of Public Service; and Accountant General’s Department, under the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs (MoFEA), on Data Analytics Using Microsoft Power BI, held at Gomindz Academy, along Kairaba Avenue.
Power BI is a collection of software services, apps among others that work together to turn unrelated sources of data into coherent, visually immersive, and interactive insights.
“Once completed, it will offer the ministry the opportunity to monitor various HR and payroll related reports on a dashboard to facilitate quick and accurate decision making,” PS Jallow elucidated.
The PS underscored the critical role of the Public Service Ministry in ensuring efficient service delivery and decision-making. He said in today’s data-driven world, leveraging tools like Microsoft Power BI can significantly enhance data analysis, visualisation, and reporting capabilities.
He outlined the objectives of the training as follows: to introduce participants to the fundamentals of Data analytics and visualisation, to equip participants with hands-on skills in using Microsoft Power BI, to enable participants to create interactive dashboards and reports for data-driven decision-making and to enhance the ministry’s capacity to use PowerBI for Analysis and insights.
