Gambia could register over 100,000 cases if measures not adhered to – Health Ministry

The authorities of the Ministry of Health have projected a soaring number of over 100, 000 COIVD-19 cases if people do not adhere to measures like social distancing and overall behavioral change towards the viral disease.

The health officials and the national COVID-19 emergency response team, led by the Minister of Health, Dr Ahmadou Lamin Samateh called on the Special Parliamentary Select Committee on the implementation of COVID -19 to brief them about the state of, and activities against COVID-19 in the country.

Dr Mustapha Bittaye further pointed to the parliamentarians that social distancing and behavioral change towards COVID-19 are key in the fight against COVID-19.

The 100,000 case projection he said could be cut to 53, 000 cases if social distancing and the standard guidelines are followed.

He therefore urged the public to strictly observe the WHO guidelines and to follow the Ministry’s advice.
