Young Female Author set to Launch 2nd Book

By Sainabou Sambou

Fatou Camara Junior, an author, founder and Secretary General of ‘Guide them Young’, an entrepreneur and an activist, is set to launch her second book ‘His other woman’.

The book a non-fiction novel that delves into the theme of women’s empowerment, shedding light on the power of solidarity among women, particularly those navigating polygamous marriages. The central message of the novel revolves around empowering women to focus their energy on self-development and mutual support, rather than engaging in conflicts over men.

In this exclusive interview with the Gambia Daily, Ms. Camara explained her passion for writing. She said she started writing when she was at Agie Sukai Memorial Senior Secondary School. She has written few literary materials including a magazine that contains articles and poems.

The young author said she is inspired by her society - how people interact, and communicate; the way people move around and about their activities. Of particular to her, Fatou said, is the struggles of women in taking care of their  kids while making sure everyone is okay. “I look at women -  what they go through especially in terms of their marriages and relationships and the way they are treated by men even though they work really hard to make sure their husbands are fine. I felt that while I may not be able to do much about, I could write and make sure my voice really goes far - to the people who need it the most and to educate the younger generation about these issues; especially to the younger boys,” she stated.

Further about the book, Ms Camara said “it is a novel that literally tells women when they find themselves in  polygamy marriages , they should  support each other and be each others’ sisters. Most especially it tells them that they should not fight over their husband or to kill each other for a man because two of them have already decided to be in a polygamous marriage”.

She said she has never got married and that she is not an expert in marriage. However, she said her expectation about the book launch is to foster an open-minded conversation with the panelists who have experience in marriage. “So having them to come and share their experience about marriage will be a huge success. I want people to come, interactive session and buy the book”.
