In a landmark event the Vice President His Excellency Mohammed BS Jallow, representing President Adama Barrow, recently presided over the decoration ceremony of almost 68 junior and senior officers of The Gambia Armed Forces, held at the Defence Headquarters in Banjul.
This significant ceremony saw promotions of officers to various ranks; from captain, major, to lieutenant colonel.
Addressing the assembled officers, Vice President Jallow expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for the historic event. He emphasised that the promotions reflected the officers’ unwavering dedication, diligence, and loyalty to the nation. He lauded the Promotional Examination Board’s fair and transparent process, underscoring its adherence to international best practices.
“I must emphasise that this shall be the way forward in the Armed Forces; that promotions shall be based on merit, competence and above all loyalty to one’s country and people,” the Vice President stated.
The ceremony also highlighted governmental support initiatives, including increased budgetary allocations to improve living conditions and operational capabilities. Acknowledging strategic partnerships with countries such as Turkey, Morocco, and the United States, Vice President Jallow emphasised the ongoing efforts to provide educational opportunities and scholarships for military personnel.
Underlining the importance of technological advancement, Vice President Jallow commended the Armed Forces’ outreach efforts and urged the continued integration of emerging technologies to enhance institutional branding and community relations.
In addition to extending congratulations to the promoted officers, Vice President Jallow reinforced the nation’s appreciation for their service and sacrifice.
Further emphasising the government’s commitment to its armed forces, Vice President Jallow presented a donation of D250,000 from President Adama Barrow to the victims of the recent fire incident at Hamza Barracks in Banjul.
The ceremony marked a new era of excellence and commitment within the Gambia Armed Forces, promising a future of continued growth and development for the nation’s military.
The event was attended by key dignitaries including the Honourable Minister of Defence Ambassador Serign Modou Njie, Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Mamat OA Cham, both whom delivered motivational statements; and National Security Adviser Abubacarr Jeng, signified a major milestone in the history of The Gambia Armed Forces.
