Trust Bank Gambia Limited on Tuesday donated 240 bottles of Dettol liquid soap to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education at a ceremony held at the ministry’s head office in Banjul.
Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director of Trust Bank Limited, Mr. Ibrahima Salla, said his Bank is a key partner in the Covid-19 response in The Gambia.
“Coronavirus is still with us but we have no doubt that the best interest of every child was taken on board by the ministry when it reopened grade 9 classes and we recognise that it is a delicate decision which calls for concerted efforts to make it a success,” Mr. Salla added.
He further noted that Covid-19 pandemic poses daunting challenges to Government and families across the country, as the virus is affecting all sectors, over-turning the lives of children and their education.p/>
“As a proud Gambian bank, we cannot be indifferent to the plight of our children - the future leaders of our country,” he said; hence his Bank’s quick response to the MoBSE request for support to students, teachers and families in the fight against Covid-19.
The Managing Director noted that the items donated will help to ensure that schools continue to be reopen uninterruptedly unlike other parts of the world. “We are proud to have the privilege to donate these items and I would also like to assure you all of our continual support to the sector,” Mr. Salla added.
Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Claudiana A. Cole said the donation will go towards supplementing the efforts of her ministry and its partners.
In her words: “I am really happy with the fruitful relationship between my ministry and Trust Bank Gambia Ltd and it is a pleasure to have these valuable items in our schools. We need them in order for us to have safe school environment for our students, teachers and school authorities in general.”
Minister Cole acknowledged that this was not the first time they offered help to her ministry. “We are appreciative of your efforts and on behalf of the MoBSE family we are saying thank you”.
The minister went on: “These items will be put into better use and we will forward them to the current grade 9 students who are in their classes and other classes coming ahead. As you know grade 9 students are always your babies”.
