Tourism, Trade Ministers Discuss Solutions to Plight of Hoteliers, Tour Operators

The minister of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration, and Employment last week received Honorable Abdoulie Jobe, Minister of Tourism and Culture, and the executive members of The Gambia Hotels Association at his office in Banjul.
The Tourism Minister and team briefed Minister Joof about some of the challenges the hoteliers and tour operators are faced with, as well as the need for stakeholders to have a common understanding of The Gambia’s Tourism Industry.
Hon. Abdoulie Jobe described the meeting as very crucial, saying both ministries have asignificant role to play in the development and advancement of Gambia’s tourism sector.
“Tourism creates many job opportunities for Gambians; especially, women and youths. So, we need to come together as key players in the industry and make it the best for our people,” he said.
He further stated that the COVID-19 pandemic had affected the tourism industry and therefore all hands need to be on deck to revitalise the industry. 
The Minister then assured the team of his Ministry’s continuous support to making the sector more vibrant and reliable.
On receiving the delegation, Hon. Baboucarr O. Joof, the Minister of Trade, thanked the Minister of Tourism and Culture for leading the team to his office, and reassured them of his Ministry’s commitment to more economical and vibrant industries in the country.
“I am honored for the visit and as the Minister responsible for Trade and Industry, I will do my best to ensure that industries continue to grow including the hotel industries for the economic benefits of the Gambia,” he said.
Other speakers included Abubacarr S. Camara, Director General of the Gambia Tourism Board; and Hayat Blell, President of The Gambia Hotels Association.
