TIKA donates building materials worth D1.3M to NDMA

The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) on Tuesday handed over building materials worth D1.3M (one million and three hundred thousand dalasis) to the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) at a ceremony that attended by H.E. Vice President Dr. Isatou Touray and the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to The Gambia, H.E. Ismail Sefa Yüccer. The donated items are meant for the support of disaster victims who were affected by the torrential rains that happened in Central and Upper River regions at the beginning of the raining season this year. Included items in the donation are bags of cement, timber purlins, palm rafters, corrugated iron sheets, nails, bags of white wash paint, and binding wires.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to The Gambia, H.E. Ismail Sefa Yüccer reiterated Turkey’s commitment to supporting The Gambia. He added that the donation is a part of items that were delivered to disaster victims in CRR and URR in August and September this year to support the reconstruction of houses that were destroyed by this year’s torrential rains.

On her part, H.E. the Vice President Dr. Touray extended her profound gratitude to the Republic of Turkey through TIKA for the kind gesture. She added that the donation is another manifestation of the cordial relationship which exists between Ankara and Banjul. Dr. Touray also assured the donors that the items will be put into good use.
