His Excellency President Adama Barrow on Thursday, 27th March 2025 received in audience Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, special envoy of the President of Tanzania to President Adama Barrow.
Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete and his delegation were accompanied to State House by Honourable Serign Modou Njie, Minister of Defence; and Mr Lang Yabo, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The envoy affirmed to the press that he was sent to deliver a special message from his president to The Gambian leader.
“President Samia of Tanzania appreciates the cordial relation that happily exists between our two countries. It is a long history; from the time of independence of our countries with our first presidents, Sir Dawda Jawara of The Gambia and Julius Njerere of Tanzania. They worked on this relationship, and worked together as comrades for the benefit of the African continent.
Further commenting on his personal ties with Gambians, Dr Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete recalled that when he was a student at the University of Darussalam, one of the Professors was a Gambian and that he had met with a number of Gambian students at the University of Tanzania.
He revealed that the message he delivered was about cooperation and solidarity between the two countries. “ The Tanzanian president “congratulated the Gambian president on his leadership and the progress that is evident in the country,” he stated.
