Securiport Gambia, in partnership with the Ministry of Interior and The Gambia Immigration Department, from the 1st - 2nd of October, 2024, conducted person of interest training for immigration officers at the Banjul International Airport in Yundum.
The training focused on topics that impact collective safety and security.
The Director General of Securiport Gambia, Madam Fatim Badjie, in her speech, highlighted the importance of the training in their ongoing fight against evolving threats. She said criminals often target smaller nations like The Gambia as potential escape routes or for ilicit activities.
“The rise of organised crime and transnational criminal networks poses significant implications for our security and stability. These threats are not confined to any single region; they are part of a global landscape that requires our vigilance and robust response mechanisms,” she advised.
Madam Badjie emphasised the relevance of the implementation of the Person of Interest (POI) system in safeguarding travelers and the country. She said  they are committed to providing this system, enhancing the defences against potential threats at Banjul International Airport.
DG Badjie affirmed that the Securiport will continue providing cutting-edge technology and support for the ongoing capacity building initiatives for The Gambia Immigration Department.
Speaking on behalf of the Director General of Immigration Department, Mr Jahateh, Assistant Director General described the training as a significant milestone in their continuous efforts to strengthen the capacity of The Gambia Immigration Department in handling matters of national security and border management.
“The training that has been delivered over these two days has equipped our officers with critical competencies that will greatly improve the identification, investigation, and management of persons of interest; whether they are potential security threats or individuals involved in irregular activities,” he reaffirmed.
Mr Jahateh underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing global security challenges.
He congratulated the participants and encouraged them to apply what they have learned diligently and share the knowledge with their colleagues. He equally expressed appreciation to Securiport for their unwavering support and professionalism in delivering the programme.
