In recognition of the role of record clercks in the public service, the Deputy Permanent Secretary (DPS) at the Ministry of Public Service (MoPS) described record clerks as the backbone of a well-functioning democracy, as they “empower decision-makers and uphold the integrity of public institutions”. Lalla Jaiteh recently made these remarks on behalf of the Minister of Public Service, Hon. Baboucarr Bouy, during the official opening of a daylong Annual Heads of Records Office meeting held at Bakadaji hotel in Kololi with the theme: “Efficiency through Collaboration”.

According to DPS Jaiteh, record clerks’ commitment to ethical practices and rigorous standards build trust with the public, stating that when it comes to real records management, they hold a unique position, and are the guardians of history and custodians of information. “Each record you manage, tells a story. These stories are vital not only for our institutions but for our communities and our country. You provide the foundation upon which decisions are made and preserve the legacy of those who have come before us,” DPS Jaiteh asserted.

As records management professionals, DPS Jaiteh further highlighted, their work is invaluable, to ensure that vital records are accessible, secure and preserved for future generations. Permanent Secretary, Personnel Management Office (PMO), Lamin F. Jawara, said records support evidence-based decision making in Government, which is essential for rational decision-making. PS Jawara further explained that effective records management is crucial in a world where information is being generated at an unprecedented rate. He noted that record clerk’s efforts to organise, preserve and provide access to information support daily operations and ensure transparency, and accountability within Government institutions. Maimuna Janneh, Head of Current Records Directorate at the National Record Services said collaboration with key stakeholder is vital in records management. She thanked all record officers for their hard work.
