Public Service Commission gets New Chairman

The Government of The Gambia has appointed Mr. Baboucarr A. Suwareh as new chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC), replacing Mr. Lamin Samateh, who went on retirement after serving in the position for 6 years. Mr. Suwareh served as PSC Commissioner under outgoing PSC Chairman, Mr. Samateh for three years.

The outgoing PSC chairman, Mr. Samateh was appointed by the Government of The Gambia as the Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman in January 25, 2018.

Prior to his appointment in 2018, Mr. Lamin Samateh held key positions in the Public Service during the first Republic, which include Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Information and Tourism in 1984, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Lands; Permanent Secretary, Personnel Management Office (PMO); Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health and Social Welfare; as well as international appointment with WHO offices based in Brazzaville and Harare in Zimbabwe. He retired at WHO at the end of 1998.

Mr. Baboucarr A. Suwareh was appointed on January 31, 2024 as new Public Service Commission (PSC) chairman. He is a retired educationist having had 38 years of administrative responsibility at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE). He also served as The Gambia’s Deputy Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China from 2016 to 2018.
