The Nigerian Company 4 of ECOMIG mission in The Gambia today commissioned newly installed electrically powered borehole to the community of Medinanemasu at Bafuloto as part of the civil-military mandate.
The project which aimed at reducing the untold hardship faced by this vulnerable community in accessing portable water which also coincided with the 59-independence anniversary of Nigeria was highly attended by the head of Nigerian and Ghanaian contingent commanders as well as the high commissioner, Ambassador Oluwasengun Ibidapo-Obe and other senior military officials.
Delivering his keynote address while explaining the genesis of the project, lieutenant colonel Mohammed Tijjani Nagudu, the commanding officer of Nigerian Company 4 ECOMIG recalled that it is part of their mission to strengthen the civil-military relations through quick impact community projects.
Among the mandate, according to the Nigerian top military commander to The Gambia, including sporting activities, medical outreach among others, noting that the project will go a long way in serving this community who found it difficult to access portable drinking water.
Oluwasengun Ibidapo-Obe the Nigerian high commissioner to The Gambia while commissioning the project which cost over D250,000 thanked his fellow countrymen for their foresight in helping this vulnerable community who are in dire need of potable drinking water.
His excellency Ambassador Oluwasengun Ibidapo-Obe is also optimistic that the project will further cement the bilateral relationship between the two countries, stressing that the relationship which has been in existence between the two countries will continue to strengthen in all areas of bilateral cooperation.
In appreciation of the gesture, the community also thanked the Nigerian mission for their benevolence gesture for coming to their aids.
The Nigerian Company [NIGCOY] 4 ECOMIG arrived in The Gambia early this year under the auspices of ECOWAS mission to assist the Gambian defense and security forces in providing peace and security. It is also part of their mandate to strengthen civil-military relations through a quick impact community such as sporting activities, medical outreach among others.
