Newly Inaugurated Farafenni Youth Centre Touted Game Change in Youth Development

The North Bank Region has witnessed a significant milestone with the inauguration of the Farafenni Youth Centre, a facility designed to provide young people with opportunities for skills development, entrepreneurship, and community engagement. The centre, funded by the European Union (EU) through the European Union Trust Fund , International Trade Centre, IMVF  and Enabel aims to serve as a hub for youth empowerment.
Hon. Bakary Y. Badjie, Minister of Youth and Sports, presided over the official opening, emphasizing the government’s dedication to creating spaces that foster innovation, economic growth, and social development. He expressed gratitude to development partners, including the International Trade Centre (ITC), for their contributions towards youth advancement.
“This centre is more than a structure; it is a foundation for opportunities where young people can learn, innovate, and build a better future,” Minister Badjie stated. He called on community leaders and youth representatives to take ownership of the facility and ensure its sustainability.
 Lamin Saidykhan, Governor of the North Bank Region, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed to the establishment of the youth centre. He highlighted the importance of youth empowerment in national development, stating that the facility will serve as a safe and conducive space for young people to access training, job opportunities, and essential services. “Your resilience and dedication have been commendable. Let us make the best use of this centre to drive positive change in our communities,” he urged.
Speaking on behalf of the European Union, Enrica Pellacani, Head of Cooperation, reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to youth development in The Gambia. She emphasized that the youth centre is more than just a physical structure—it is a space for empowerment, innovation, and collaboration. Pellacani expressed hope that the centre would be well-maintained and fully utilized to support young people in achieving their dreams. “By investing in young people, we are investing in the future of this country,” she concluded.
The National Youth Council (NYC), led by Chairperson Ida Jatta, assured continuous support for youth-led initiatives, encouraging young people to leverage the facility to foster creativity and personal growth.

Upper Baddibou District Chief, Alhagie Mustapha Dibba; and North Bank Region Chairperson Pa Modou Gaye, hailed the initiative as a game-changer for youth development. They urged young people to make the best use of the centre by actively participating in training programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing their skills and leadership potential.
