Banjul, 07 April 2025: The newly appointed High Commissioner of The Gambia River Basin Development Organisation (OMVG), Demba A. Jallow, has expressed commitment to advancing the agenda of the sub-regional energy project and making African integration a reality through such initiatives.
Mr Jallow and his team were at State House last week to meet His Excellency President Adama Barrow, to “show gratitude to the President” he said, following his appointment by the President. “I was nominated by the President of The Gambia and I think is good I come and show gratitude,” he affirmed.
Commissioner Jallow noted that the task ahead of him is to work hard for the interest of the four member states. He went on to explain that the water component of the OMVG plays a critical role in boosting rice cultivation, contributing to food self-sufficiency and helping to stabilise the cost of living.
The team assured President Barrow of their commitment to working diligently for the benefit of the member states.
The delegation was accompanied to State House by the Honourable Minister of the Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources.
The Organisation pour la Mise en Valeur du fleuve Gambie (the Gambia River Basin Development Organization) (OMVG) Interconnection Project for Africa is to enable electricity trade among The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and Senegal.
The OMVG organisation was founded in 1978 in Kaolack Senegal. The Gambia was the first High Commissioner of the organisation and recently assumed the high commission position again.
