The government of The Gambia has rolled out a massive food relief targeting 84 of the Gambian household, as part of its campaign against the impact COVID-19.
As the distribution intensifies across the country, the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), the body tasked with the responsibility of monitoring and coordinating the distribution exercise has embarked on a tour of the distribution points across the country to assess progress and challenges.
Setting out for the journey on June 2nd, Mr Sana Dahaba, the executive director of NDMA, affirmed to Gambia Daily that the objective to ensure that the rations were delivered accordingly and fairly and to take note of complaints and unforeseen circumstances for remedy.
The team started off to the Fajikunda distributing point, which was shut down due to organisational lapses and lack of adherence to state of emergency protocols. It was meant to reopen the following day.
However, the alkalo of the town, commended government for the good job it is doing with regard to the food relief.
The councilor of Abuko ward, Pa Lamin Gibba, assured that the distribution was running smoothly and that some challenges were addressed there and then.
Next point of call was in Lamin village, where the NDMA advised adherence to the social distancing protocol and suggested that the distribution process be stopped until they community is able to reorganize itself. The councilor indicated his disappointment with the people of Lamin village and assured of working with the people to sort out the social distancing regulation. While Bakoteh manifested similar challenges, Latrikunda German, as the NDMA officials found out, was well organized, and the councilor affirmed that the distribution was going on well.
The Executive Director and delegation then made weekend trip to the regions to gauge the distribution exercise there.
