The National Roads Authority (NRA), under the Ministry of Transport, Works & Infrastructure (MoTWI) responsible for the provision of safe, reliable and well-maintained road network for socio-economic development of The Gambia, will embark on major road maintenance.
In March 2022 contracts were signed for the Banni – Salikene-Njaba Kunda roads, Brufut – Madiana – Banykang – Kunkunjang roads, and for the re-surfacing of sections on the Soma –Basse highway and Kudang – Bansang road.

Officials say these maintenance works will improve the much-needed urban circulation and provide alternative routes for road users and to minimise congestion on our key urban roads.
The authority is with the view that when the roads are completed it will connect major communities in rural Gambia, provide access to schools, health care centres, agricultural sites and boost tourism.
Similarly, maintenance works in the Kolongba Road (Dippa Kunda), Bakoteh Silo (Dippa Kunda), Brikama Garage – Sandika Road, (Serrekunda) and Lamin- NTC are also in progress.
These major roads maintenance works have come at a time when construction of major urban roads in preparation for the much anticipated Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), to be hosted by The Gambia this year.
It is needless to emphasise that in The Gambia road traffic congestions are becoming a challenge by the day; but once these roads are accomplished, it will go a long way towards helping to address the issues of traffic congestions.
The NRA officials have confirmed that most of these roads when completed will be provided with proper traffic sign boards, drainage systems and speed bumps.
