Muslims Hands The Gambia, through the Support of its parent body, Muslims Hands International (UK) has complemented government’s efforts in the fight against Covid- 19 by donating Personal Protection Equipment, and sanitary materials to communities in Kombo East, Kombo South, Kombo North and Kanifing Municipality. The beneficiaries of this gesture are: mosques, community health facilities and security border posts within the respective communities, and the Office of the Governor of West Coast Region.
Speaking at a brief presentation held at the Office of the Governor, Ebrima Mass, a board member of Muslims Hands Gambia, said throughout its 25 years of existence in The Gambia, the organisation has been supporting communities, orphans and the unprivileged during Ramadan and Tobaski.
He pointed out that with the recent reopening of mosques in the country the organisation felt the need to support many mosques and communities to observe safety and preventive measures during the time of worship amid Covid-19. He called on the beneficiaries to always wash their hands before entering a mosque and use face mask.
Mass stressed that combating Covid -19 should be everyone’s business, noting that government cannot do it alone.
Speaking on behalf of the regional Covid- 19 task force committee, Binta Sey, National Disaster Management Coordinator for West Coast Region, described the donation as timely. She advised that with the uptick of Covid-19 cases communities should adhere to the advice of the Ministry of Health. She thanked Muslims Hands for the support they have been rendering to the region over the past years, and assured the donors that the items will be judiciously used.
Ba Jerreh Demba, representative of the governor of West Coast Region, also thanked the donors for their support, and attested to the fact that Muslim Hands has constructed mosque and dug lot of wells in the region.
