The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy (MoPE) on behalf of the Government of The Gambia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TBEA International Engineering Co.Ltd on the sidelines of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FoCAC) Summit in The People’s Republic of China.
The MoU will serve as a framework within which both parties intend to cooperate on the ongoing projects.
The Government, through the Ministry is committed to the global energy transition and the MoU is a demonstration of the unwavering commitment of the two parties.
The MoU was signed by His Excellency Masanneh Nyuku Kinteh, Ambassador of The Gambia to China, on behalf of the Ministry. The ceremony was witnessed by His Excellency Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia; the First Lady, Mrs Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow, and other representatives from the Gambian Government, and TBEA.
This MoU is a monumental step ahead in strengthening the relationship between the Ministry and TBEA, under the banner of the “Renewable Energy and Smart Grid Upgrade Project in The Gambia”.
TBEA served as the contractors of the 23MW Jambur solar plant which was inaugurated by the President on the 9th of March 2024. It delivered a one-of-a-kind solar power plant in The Gambia that aids in providing electricity to many communities in the country.
TBEA has the requisite expertise, knowledge and skills in the manufacturing, engineering, procurement, construction and financing of power transmission, power plant, renewable energy and other energy infrastructures.
The successful installation of the 23MW with 8MWh Solar PV Plant at Jambur and other electricity infrastructure projects in The Gambia, which demonstrate high quality, efficient performance and outstanding technical output of the project to the satisfaction of The Gambia Government.
The Ministry in its quest to attain the goal of universal energy access by 2025, understands the need to provide sustainable and renewable sources of energy. It understands that solar-powered energy is the way forward. TBEA has shown its ability to provide facilities that cater to that need, so signing an MoU to further strengthen the relationship is a step in the right direction.
President Barrow and The Gambian delegation were taken through a digital presentation of the company’s activities, sharing its expertise in the green energy sector, including the Jambur Solar plant in The Gambia.
