The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) on Friday, October 30th received the donation of 5,000 face masks from a Chinese philanthropist, Tam Wai Kit. The masks were presented by representative from Idea Works Company on behalf of Mr Kit.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of MoHERST, Mod A.K Secka expressed delight and gratitude to the donor for the noble gesture, and assured that the masks would be put to good use.
For Basadie Jabbie, Co-Manager of Idea Works, the donation by Tam Wai Kit, whom he referred to as one of his colleagues, could not have come at a better time.
“When the Ministry of Higher Education announced the re-opening of schools, I told Mr Kit we need to help. He asked, ‘What would they need?’, I said face masks,” Mr Jabbie explained, adding that Mr. Kit’s immediate response was to support.
Similar donations were made to The Gambia Police Force, Ministry of Health and Kanifing Municipal Council and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
