The Real Women in Action last week paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Welfare, Hon. Fatou Kinteh at her office.
The Association which was established in February 2024 aims to advance women and youths, and particularly address issues affecting women and youth.
Speaking on behalf of the Association, the President, Fatou Ceesay, said its main aim is to tackle issues affecting women and youth and help them reintegrate into society. She pointed out that the Association is legally registered, and its members are students from Stratford College with different backgrounds and sources of life.
She informed that since the establishment of the Association, they have called on the National Human Rights Commission, MoGCSW, and other stakeholders.
“We have also embarked on community engagement, sensitised the youths on the dangers of drugs and drugs related issues. All this is to complement government’s efforts in the fight against drugs”, she stated.
Madam Ceesay however highlighted the challenges the Association is facing; ranging from mobility, funding to office space; and therefore called for help.
Hon. Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Welfare Fatou Kinteh expressed heartfelt gratitude for their laudable initiatives, and assured them of her office’s support. She promised them that she will engage partners, especially UN system for support, and reminded them about the toll free numbers her office created - 199, 1025, and 1313 – to report cases of Gender Based Violence.
The Minister explained to the delegation that her Ministry has four directorates; namely: the Directorate of Gender, the Directorate of Children Affairs, the Directorate of Social Welfare, and the Directorate of Policy Planning and Strategic Development.
At the end of the meeting the members of the Association presented a T-shirt to the Hon. Minister.
