His Excellency President Adama Barrow Friday received the letters of credence as ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania to The Gambia from His Excellency Sidi Mohamed Ould Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Mohamed Radhy at the State House in Banjul.
On accepting the credentials, President Barrow called for the implementation of the various agreements signed between the two countries in relation to enhancing trade and commerce. He remarked: “Africa is making limited trade amongst its members in comparison to external trade.” He hailed the Mauritanian Community in The Gambia for being law-abiding and hardworking.
Ambassador Mohamed said the Gambia and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania have a long history of friendship which he hopes to build on for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries. He added that The Gambia and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania cooperate in many fronts including in regional organisations and the African Union.
The Gambia and Mauritania have strong diplomatic relations with embassies in both countries. The Islamic Republic of Mauritania also has a Consul General in Basse owing to the large presence of Mauritanian nationals in that part of the country.
