Magassy Foundation for Relevant Easy Adult Literacy (MF-REAL), on Wednesday, April 6th donated the sum of thirty thousand Dalasi (D30, 000) to the Basse COVID-19 Taskforce and the Disaster Management Agency. The presentation of the relief package and assistance to the Health and COVID-19 Taskforce took place at the URR Governor’s Bantaba.

The gesture is meant to support the communities of Basse; particularly victims of the recent Basse market fire outbreak, and the COVID-19 taskforce in their quest to contain and fight against the global pandemic.

A sum of D20, 000 was allocated to the Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Agency in Basse and the balance of D10, 000 was allocated to the COVID-19 Taskforce through the Regional Health Director.

In a similar but separate development, the Foundation also donated the sum of twenty-two thousand eight hundred and fifty Dalasi to vulnerable individuals affected by the public emergency restrictions. The said amount was shared among 82 vulnerable individuals in the Basse constituency.

Beneficiaries thanked Mohamed Magassy, the National Assembly Member for the area, for his generosity and humanitarian assistance.

Mr Magassy said the objective of his Foundation is to widen the understanding of the people through adult literacy, in order to reduce their illiteracy rate for them to be autonomous and become contributors to national development; that the electorate of his constituency are the drivers of the foundation.

Fanta Samateh Manneh, the Governor of URR, hailed the Basse NAM for the foresight and continual support to the region.

She appealed to other natives of URR within and beyond The Gambia, to give support to their families back home; that food sufficiency during this difficult moment is a major challenge; especially for rural populations.

The Magassy Foundation for Relevant Easy Adult Literacy (MF – REAL), is a non-profit organisation based in Sabi in the Fuladu East District of the Upper River Region. The Foundation gives support and work with the communities of Basse constituency, during this emergency and difficult time.
