The people of Falladou West in the Central River Region (CRR) have expressed gratitude to the government for its Covid-19 food relief and the successful distribution in their communities.
Thousands of needy families were seen assembled at various distribution centres including in Brikama-ba and Sinchu Madado to receive their rations.
While distributing the food coupons to head of families in Kerewan Samba Sira, the Alkalo of the village, Hamadu Saidy, told this medium that the distribution was going on smoothly. He however pointed out that they had to deal with the challenge of registrations and communication. “There was mistake in the preparation of food coupons with regard to names and telephone numbers. While one person’s name would appear three to four to times, other people’s name did not appear”.
The chief of Lower Fulladu West, Muhammed Lamin Baldeh assured that everyone will receive the covid-19 food package.
The chairperson of the Village Development Committee of Kerewan Samba Sira, Haminta Ceesay welcomed the initiative, and also assured that the food aid will be used as intended.
Beneficiaries like Numo Sabally used the opportunity to hail the Gambian leader for the food aid, noting that this will help mitigate the impact of covid-19 in The Gambia, the provinces in particular.
On a separate but similar occasion, the governor of Central River Region, Sherrif Abba Sanyang affirmed that the distribution of food rations in his region, has been going on well despite some initial challenges. He explained that beneficiaries are required to present coupons and ID cards before given the rations.
The governor also noted that the regional authorities leading the distribution are also enabling people to observe social distancing.
For Mr Ngange Nyang, regional disaster coordinator for CRR, while the distribution is generally going well, it is not without issues. He decried lack of enough tablets and distribution centres in the region. “Currently we have only 27 tablets and 4 to 5 distribution points both in the North and South” he informed.
The Alkalo of Brikamaba, Lamin Manjang, called for unity and focus on national development.
