Lamin S Jawara Reappointed National Sports Council Chairperson

The Minister of Youth and Sports (NSC) reappointed Mr. Lamin S. Jawara as board chairperson of National Sport Council for the next four years.  The Minister unveiled this information while installing a new board of directors for the NSC on Friday, October 6th   at their Kanifing office, following the expiration of the term of the previous board.

The National Sports Council board is a combination of elected regional chairpersons and nominated members by the Hon. Minister and the members have a four-year term.

In his board inauguration statement, Minister Badjie called the event as setting “the pace for the start of a very important task of ensuring that our sport is administered by a body”.

He called on the members to be absolutely guided by the principles and processes of the NSC, and to particularly  familiarise themselves with the National Sports Council Act.

 “Even though I have no intentions to scare you, it is important for you to note that the task of deepening the development of sports in The Gambia directly lies on your shoulders and that team work is paramount to achieving the board’s goals and objectives,” Minister Badjie advised.

Speaking earlier, NSC Executive Director, Marchel K. Mendy reminded everyone that sports in The Gambia is no longer what it used to be. “We have moved from one level to another thanks to the commitment of some of you,” he said, adding that the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and by extension the government of The Gambia, have made this possible.

In his acceptance speech, NSC Chairman Lamin S. Jawara thanked the Minister and his staff for the confidence bestowed on him.

He expressed resolve to ensure that his reappointment as NSC chairperson helps him pursue continued success.

He said the infrastructural development combined with the support of sports associations constitute a clear testimony of Gambia government’s commitment for the development of sports
