Young Gambian Innovators to Present ‘Project Well’ in Singapore Competition

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MOHERST) received the National First Global Challenge (FGC) Team Gambia, 2023, at its office premises in Bijilo. These awe-inspiring young Gambians will represent the country in Singapore’s prestigious International Robotics Competition.

The theme of this year’s challenge is Hydrogen Horizon, and their project is designed to do phenomenal feats around this theme.

Dr. Jorjoh Ndure-Tambedou, CEO of InSISTGlobal accompanied the team to express their gratitude to The Gambia Government for its support to the young scientists and innovators before their departure to Singapore.

The Permanent Secretary Dr. Yusupha Touray, and senior officials of MoHERST, expressed delight at their association with such promising minds.

The FGC Team Gambia, 2023, will present an innovation called “Project Well”, to be executed by a robot they developed and named “Scorpion”. The young innovators got their inspiration from the pulley system of The Gambia’s traditional wells.

The Permanent Secretary, Dr. Touray, applauded the group for their hard work and dedication and advised them to be excellent ambassadors of our dearest nation.

“Go and represent us with love and passion for the country,” said Dr. Touray.

According to the Deputy Permanent Secretary Technical, Mr. Mucktarr M.Y Darboe, this is a step in the right direction. He urged the team to expand their horizon and nurture that drive.  “Doors will always open for you,” he promised.

Thousands of students from more than 190 countries will gather in Singapore this year to compete in a thrilling game, highlighting the importance of renewable energy.
