Wagadu Football Club has announced that the club has reached an agreement with FC Shakhtar Donetsk for the permanent transfer of their player, Muhamadou Kanteh to the Ukrainian giants and European regulars.
Mo Kanteh will join the 16-time Ukrainian Premier League champions and one-time European Cup winners when he turns 18 years old.
“The talented forward joined Wagadu in 2021 and has since defended our shirt for the last two seasons in the Gambia Football Federation,” the club said.
The statement further read: “In the 2023/24 season, Kanteh finished the campaign as our top scorer across all competitions with 9 goals and 4 assists playing a crucial role in our best finish of a league campaign to maintain our status as a second division club”.
This achievement, the club said has also earned Mo a preliminary call-up to The Gambia U20 team for a possible selection to the upcoming WAFU A U20 AFCON qualifications in Liberia.
“I am excited to announce that we have reached an agreement with FC Shakhtar Donetsk for the transfer of Muhamadou Kanteh, who will officially join Shakhtar next year. This is a significant step in Muhamadou’s career, and we are proud of his achievements,” Club President, Muhammad M. Jagana expressed.
