SheTrades Hub Members Receive Equipment Worth D1.5M

The SheTrades Hub, under the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MoTIE) last week handed over to its members - 14 women-led businesses equipment worth 1.5 million Dalasi.

The handing over ceremony was held at the Ministry’s ground in Banjul. The equipment include grinding machine, milling machine, dehydrator, sophisticated mixer machine, drying machine, solar dryer, embroidery machine, circuit machine, over lock machine, stirring rode and spatula.

The support, which is the 2nd of its kind, came from the Enhanced Integrated Framework Sustainable Support Project, which aims to scale up women’s economic participation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Lamin Dampha, the Permanent Secretary of MoTIE, affirmed that the initiative is to assist the members of the SheTrades Hub to expand their businesses.

He urged them to make good use of the equipment while assuring of his office’s continuous support in providing advice, as well as monitoring their progress.

For his part, Mr. Abdoulie Jammeh, the Deputy Permanent Secretary at MoTIE informed the beneficiaries that the move was meant to support their businesses by building their capacities to increase production, improve quality and packaging of their products so that they are able to access markets

According to him, they have worked with 90 women over the years and because of the success of the SheTrades project, the Ministry in collaboration with International Trade Centre (ITC) deemed it appropriate for them to continue working with women businesses. This, he revealed, led to the establishment of the SheTrades Hub and currently, they have about 135 women entrepreneurs that they are working under the Hub basically in the areas of horticulture, procurement and fashion.

“We look forward to working with more women entrepreneurs that are into other sectors. But today’s meeting is to continue the support that we are providing to women entrepreneurs that we are working with,” he stated.

Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the fashion companies, ,  Haddy Dibba expressed gratitude and appreciation to the donors and the members of the Hub for their support and guidance.
