The new Chief of Mission of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Emmanuel Murwisi, has assured the organisation’s strong desire to strengthen its support to Gambia’s migration governance efforts. “We will continue to expand our programmes to support migrants and also to support government departments on migration policy and migration programmes in the country,” he declared.
Mr Emmanuel Murwisi made these remarks when he called on Vice President Jallow last week shortly after arriving in the country.
During their audience, the Vice President commended the new IOM mission chief and his organisation for enhancing the development agenda of The Gambia, particularly their massive support to the country’s migration governance.
Further to his remarks to the press after meeting with the Vice President, Mr Murwisi said that the purpose of his visit was to formally meet VP Jallow and hear from him about any specific priorities that the government would want the IOM to focus on.
He went on to further outline their plan: “I think the main message is that we want to sustain the programmes that we have initiated and expand those results. But also, we want to go into new areas; such as to provide psychosocial support to migrants who are returning to The Gambia”.
