he newly designated British High Commissioner to The Gambia, H.E Harriet King, last week held discussions with the Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST), Professor Pierre Gomez, in which the duo expressed and agreed to collaborate for the Ministry’s speedy transformation of the tertiary and higher education sector. The core programmatic areas of such transformation, as they identified, include skills development, innovation entrepreneurship, and gender equity.
H.E Harriet King expressed good impressions about the Minister’s vision and passion to develop the country’s tertiary and higher education system, and reaffirmed her commitment to working with the Ministry in support of STEM education, gender advancement and others.
Professor Gomez welcomed H.E Harriet King to The Gambia and expressed appreciation to the British High Commission in The Gambia for its continuous support to the Government; especially in the area of tertiary and higher education. He described the prestigious Chevening and Commonwealth scholarships from the UK Government as life-changing opportunities for young Gambians to pursue Master’s and PhD studies in the UK.
