MoYS Amplifies Support for Gambian Youth and Sports Associations

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) has announced significant financial support for various youth and sports associations in The Gambia. This initiative, facilitated through the National Sports Council (NSC) and the National Youth Council, aims to ensure that Gambian youth and athletes excel in high-profile international competitions throughout 2024.
Key allocations
, MOYS allocated 2 million Dalasi to Gambia Handball Association for the ZONE II handball competition in Nouakchott, Mauritania, from May 13th to 17th, 2024 for the team’s preparations and participation.
Gambia National Paralympic Committee received D1.5 million to support the athletes’ journey and participation in the Paralympic Games in France, from August 25th to September 8th, 2024; 
Gambia Judo Association was granted D622,500.00 for its  participation in the World Championships Seniors in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. from May 19th to 24th, 2024.
 Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Fellowship: Thirteen Gambian delegates that attended the YALI Fellowship in Ghana from May 13th to 31st, 2024, received D195,000.00 to support their participation.
 Gambia Male Volleyball Association has received D1,752,300.00 for multiple World Pro Tour Events in China, including Pingtan (May 9th to 12th) and Wuhan Qingshan (May 16th to 20th), as well as the final Olympic Qualification round for Africa in Tangier, Morocco, from June 18th to 24th, 2024
Paris 2024 Olympic Games: The Ministry has allocated D7 million to the GNOC for The Gambia’s participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, scheduled from July 23rd to August 12th, 2024.
 Norway Cup under 16 Team: The Tijan Jaiteh Foundation received D1.5 million to cover airfare for The Gambia’s Under 16 team to participate in the Norway Cup, where they will defend their Under 15 Trophy.
World Cup Qualifiers: An estimated cost of D22,573,990.18 has been allocated to the GFF for matches against Seychelles in Morocco and Gabon in Franceville, ensuring the team is well-prepared for these crucial qualifiers.       
Gambia Amputee Football Association were given 2.6 million Dalasis for the participation in Cairo Egypt  
This comprehensive support package from the Government of The Gambia, through MOYS and the National Sports Council, underscores the government’s commitment to advancing sports development in the country. The financial backing provided will enable Gambian youth, athletes, and teams to excel on   the international stage, bringing honour and recognition to the nation.
