Contrary to a media report last week, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) in a press release informed that the Ministry and the University have agreed that lectures will commence in the new facilities at the Faraba Banta Campus on October 2nd, 2023. Responding to the Vocie media’s claim on its September 20th, 2023, publication “that ‘Government rescinds decision to send students to Faraba campus willy – nilly”, the Ministry said “Government has not rescinded the letter written to The University of The Gambia on the handover of Lot I of the Fixed Package of the University of The Gambia Development Project by the end of September 2023 and the commencement of lectures in the facilities on October 2nd, 2023”, and that Ministry has not also rescinded the communiqué issued by the UTG Vice-Chancellor on the same subject.
“The university community is advised, therefore, to proceed with their preparations to avoid inconveniences,” the release concludes.
