The Ministry of Lands, Regional Government and Religious Affairs (MoLRG&RA) on Thursday, October 5, 2023 received from 7Cbasalia a project proposal for solid and liquid waste management and treatment.
The proposed project aims to transform all categories of unsorted domestic, clinical and industrial waste from all parts of the country into energy, as well as recondition the Bakoteh dumpsite and decontaminate water level already contaminated by nitrate in Bundung and other parts of the Greater Banjul Area.
Mr. Alhagie EF Conteh, the local representative of the 7Cbasalia Company and Managing Director of Babanani Electrical Company Limited, highlighting the benefits of the proposal, said the project can help stakeholders tackle some of the electrical, waste management and water challenges currently faced by the country. “The process will be handled with breakthrough technology that can use various kinds of wastes to produce hydrogen and electricity, completely clean water and other by- products, all of which have commercial value,” he further explained.
Mr Conteh noted that the project will complement NAWEC’s efforts. “From sludge coming from NAWEC engines, to the main Kotu sewage pond, to solid waste at places like the Bakoteh dumpsite, to the untreated borehole waters in the rural areas, to the dumping of Banjul raw sewage into the Atlantic Ocean, this technology can be used to save us the problem of dangerous urban and rural waste and at the same time improve our energy supply system by complementing the already great strides being made by NAWEC,” he remarked.
On behalf of Minister Sowe, Mr. David Gomez, the Director of Governance at MoLRG&RA affirmed that the Ministry is impressed with the dossier submitted by 7Cbasalia Company. “The waste management solution encompassed in the 7Cbasalia technology is one that is environmentally viable. Waste collection, disposal and landfill management consumes significant amount of the annual estimates of local councils, year in, year out,” Gomez stated.
He also thanked 7Cbasalia for presenting what he called window of opportunity to The Gambia and assured them of the ministry’s commitment to support the project.
7Cbasalia Company is based in the Netherlands and was presented to The Gambia through their partner, Mr. Alhagie EF Conteh.
