Banjul, 10th April 2025: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad has informed that the Government of Japan, through its Japanese Food Assistance Counterpart Fund, has approved a grant amounting to One Hundred Twelve Million, Six Hundred Eighty-Six Thousand and Forty-Eight Gambian Dalasi (GMD 112,686,048) in support of the ‘Agricultural Land Development Project for Improving Rice Production’.
This timely initiative seeks to enhance agricultural productivity through the development of arable land, establishment of irrigation infrastructure, and other related interventions aimed at strengthening national food security.
The project directly supports The Gambia’s broader development objectives, particularly in advancing self-sufficiency in rice production.
The Government of The Gambia deeply values its longstanding partnership with Japan, and seized this opportunity to convey its appreciation to the Government and people of Japan for their continuous support and contribution to The Gambia’s development.
The officials say this collaboration stands as a testament to the enduring commitment of both nations to promoting sustainable economic growth and social development.
