The Gambia Red Cross Society (GRCS) through the Talinding Home Red Cross Link has recently commemorated 21 years of community service. The event was held at Talinding Youth Centre.
In his remark, Alasan Senghore, Secretary General, Gambia Red Cross Society highlighted the contributions of the national branch at large in national development. Some of their interventions he noted include health care services and first aid, clean-up campaign, skill trainings for the youth, training women on literacy, blood donation and others.
Mr Senghore noted that as part of their transformation process in strengthening the Gambia Red Cross Society, their priority is to build capacities of the people at community level to be well placed to contribute to national development. ‘‘We will ensure systems and procedures are in place, as well as drive a resources mobilisation process and the Gplus to provide emergency medical services which will be self-sustaining”. This he asserted will be achieved by empowering their various branches.
In his activity report, Talinding Home Red Cross Link’s Abdoulie Singhateh said that for the past three years the Society has been engaged in series of vital activities and programmes such as capacity building, supporting community initiatives, training of volunteers on first aid, public speaking, and leadership training for their members in their links.
He informed that they were engaged in environmental survey in Talinding in 2017 in which they mapped out disaster hot spots like Talinding Farokono and identify solutions. This was to identify what better approach or assistance by the Talinding Home Red Cross Link for victims.
