Gov’t Awards 450 Scholarships to UTG, USET Students

The Government of The Gambia, through the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) has awarded 450 scholarships to students to purse Bachelor Degree programmes in various disciplines at the University of The Gambia (UTG) and at the newly established University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology (USET).

The Government of The Gambia scholarship aims at developing and retaining the human capital of the country with preference to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) areas.

Annually, about 65 percent of all scholarships are awarded to the STEM areas.

In their efforts to bridging the gaps in technology, infrastructure and engineering, MoHERST, supported by World Bank, has established a fully functioning University of Applied Science, Engineering and Technology, that guarantees fully-funded scholarships to admitted students.

Equally, the scholarships foster capacity development of health workers notably doctors, public health officers and nurses, to be able to feed urban areas as well as rural areas.

Currently, the Ministry is administering a six-day bond signing exercise for successful candidates from UTG and USET before the collection of their award letters. The signing of bond forms started on Wednesday, 9th of March 2022 and is expected to end by Wednesday 16th of March, 2022.

The bond form is an agreement between students and MoHERST which requires awardees to serve the country upon completion of their studies.
