In a significant show of support for Gambian sports particularly in the area of Athletics, Vice President H.E. Mohammed B.S. Jallow on Friday, 16th August, 2024 presented a cheque for D1.5 million to the nation’s Olympic athletes.
The ceremony, which brought together officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, (MoYS ) the National Sports Council (NSC)  and The Gambia National Olympic Committee, (GNOC)  celebrated the achievements of the six athletes  who will represent The Gambia at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Each of the six athletes—Sanu Jallow, Ousman Jobe, Alasan Ann, Aminata Nia Maria Barrow, Faye Njie, and Ebrima Camar - will receive GMD 250,000 as a qualification bonus from the government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports as part of the scheme of motivation to them.
This gesture underscores the nation’s commitment to nurturing and rewarding its sports talents as they compete on the global stage.
Notably, Gina Mariam Bass Bittaye, who earlier this year secured gold at the All  African Games and African Seniors, was earlier awarded GMD 1 million for her outstanding achievements and qualification for the Paris Games. This recent event highlights the government’s ongoing dedication to recognising and investing in the country’s athletic potential as they aim for Olympic glory.
