Gambia, Senegal Devise Strategy to Bolster Defence, Border Security

His Excellency Adama Barrow President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of The Gambia Armed Forces on Wednesday, 29th January received in audience General Dawda Niang, the National Security Adviser to President Basiru Jomai Faye of Republic of Senegal.
After his closed-door audience with the President, General Dawda Niang told the press that his visit to The Gambia was a follow-up on the instruction he received from President Faye to re-enforce the cooperation between The Gambia and Senegal in the matters related to security and defence.
“As you know The Gambia- Senegal cooperation is big and very important to us”. 
The general also disclosed that he had a fruitful discussion with his Gambian counterpart and service chiefs on how to improve security.  “The most important thing that I want to share with the Gambian officials is the security on our borders; especially all the matters related to traffic, crimes and others. These are issues we need to address,” he pointed out
For his part, Abubacar Jeng, National Security Adviser expressed delight receiving General Niang, affirming that the visit was contingent on improving and cementing on bilateral cooperation and mutual benefit between the two countries.
“The visit further demonstrates the co-existence and importance of working together to ensure that optimal security services are delivered for both countries. We have discussed many areas as he indicated before and I am happy to know that we are now moving forward in times of implementing all the areas that we have identified as a way of consolidating the already excellent work that the armed and security services of both countries are doing,” Mr Jeng stated.
Aside NSA Abubacar Jeng, General Niang was accompanied to State House by Lieutenant General Mamat Cham, Chief of Defence Staff; Seedy Touray, Inspector General of Police;  Ousman Sowe, Director General, State Intelligence Services and other security chiefs.
