The Gambia National Amputee players have called for more support and care towards their Association and the whole amputee players across the country. They also called for the creation of platforms for those that are amputated so that they can also feel involved in the society. “We need more support and attention both physically and financially from the government and the private sectors but also to create more awareness for the development of amputee football in the county. Talent has never been a problem in this country, and in the amputee family we have a bunch of talented players within our mix as players. Sometimes we face difficulties and traumatic experience in the society for one reason or the other, but I believe more support and care from relevant stakeholders will change things,” Ebrima Jallow, one of the star players and a long serving member of The Gambia National Amputee team say’s
“We have a very competitive national league which is run by our association (GAFA) which many in the country are not aware of. That is a clear indication that we need attention from the people to understand that we should be accommodate in all works of life in the country,” Jallow added. Malick Badjie, another national team star player also added they really need support from everyone in the country not only financial aspects but morally as well. “We need proper attention because we are all living in the same society and we should all be inclined in our daily activities regardless of your physical being. We are amputated but choose this game of football to fulfil our dreams as young people of this country,” he added.
