The Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Seedy Keita has been granted approval by cabinet to have the Assets Management and Recovery Commission (AMRC) liquidated and sold. The proposal was presented to cabinet during the latest cabinet meeting held last week, presided over by His Excellency President Adama Barrow.
The recommendation by the Minister came about after it was adjudged that AMRC has fulfilled its original mandate of recovering more than 80 percent of debts from the defunct Gambia Commercial and Development Bank. This followed a review of the board’s policy paper and a thorough assessment of the corporation’s operation.
The other paper presented by the Finance and Economic minister was the Medium Term Economic and Fiscal Framework 2024-2027, which serves as a tool for the preparation of the annual budget framework paper for the next three years.
Furthermore, two more papers were presented by Rohey John Manjang, Minister of Environment Climate Change and Natural Resources. One was about a request to de-gazette portions of the 82-and-a-half-hectare Nyanibereh Forest Park for the creation of a new settlement between Buiba and Karatanba in Jarra Central of the Lower River Region; and to de-gazette portions of the Bijilo National Park behind Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre, for the construction of a luxury hotel and administrative offices by Arezki Company. Both papers were deemed non-controversial by cabinet, according to Information Minister Jammeh, who was briefing the press about the outcome of the meeting.
