The Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy (MOCDE) with support of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), recently validated some documents about radio frequency management including the draft National Radio Frequency Management Policy, Strategy and Action Plan.
In his reactions, the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Honourable Ousman A Bah, underscored the significance of the move in ensuring that The Gambia has a robust National Radio Frequency Spectrum Policy, Strategy and Action Plan for a brighter digital future.
He said the main objective of the initiative which is to identify existing gaps and challenges associated with existing national frequency allocations and assignments, and equally to ensure the availability of robust national radio frequency spectrum policy, strategy and action plan which he said will serve as a vision, direction and guideline for the management, utilisation, maximisation and sustainability of national spectrum resources.
He further explained that the move will expand connectivity coverage to underserved and unserved areas while ensuring quality, reliability, affordability and availability of internet and communication services.
“Our objective is to become a frontrunner in modernisation, a global leader in industrialisation and a champion of digital transformation. This can only be done through regular review of these resources and the availability of a National Radio Spectrum Policy, Strategy and Action Plan, as our national strategy vision for radio frequency spectrum management,” Minister Bah elucidated.
The Minister was thankful of partners like International Telecommunication Union (ITU) team for their unwavering support to The Gambia and the successful completion of their assignment.
