Upon presenting her letter of credence to the President of the Republic of Finland, His Excellency Sauli Niinistö, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of The Gambia to the Republic of Finland, resident in London, Her Excellency Dr. Fatou Bensouda held discussions with the Finish President on the bilateral cooperation agreements, as well as prospective ones between The Gambia and Finland. Such included the Air Service Agreement ratified by President Barrow in July 2020. The Air Service Agreement is meant to formalise air travel between Gambia and Finland. Ambassador Bensouda expressed the desire to effectively utilize the agreement for mutual benefits.
She further expressed desire for a strengthened cooperation in the field of education, so that Gambian students in science, technology, and medicine can benefit from Finish scholarship opportunities.
Student exchange programmes, further training of Gambian medical students, more opportunities to Gambian nurses, as well as easier access to visas for Gambians traveling to Finland, were among the Ambassador’s priorities during the discussion.
President Sauli Niinistö welcomed The Gambian Ambassador and conveyed his greetings to His Excellency President Adama Barrow. He assured Dr Bensouda of the Finnish government’s desire to maintain cordial relations with The Gambia, and to open further avenues for cooperation.
