The National Enterprise Development Initiative (NEDI), in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) The Gambia, just concluded a comprehensive training programme focusing on financial literacy and entrepreneurship for 120 migrant returnees across two regions in The Gambia.
The intensive six-day training was conducted in four locations, with sessions held in both the Greater Banjul Area (GBA) and the Lower River Region (LRR).
The programme was designed to enhance the understanding of the participants about the business landscape. Through this training, returnees were equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of entrepreneurship and launch successful business ventures.
In addition to the in-depth education provided during the sessions, the programme also includes a crucial support component.
Part of the training package is to offer financial assistance to migrant returnees, to enable them turn their entrepreneurial aspirations into reality.
This support is intended to bridge the gap between learning and implementation, ensuring that returnees can effectively apply their newfound skills to create sustainable livelihoods.
This recent cohort is part of a broader, ongoing effort by NEDI and IOM. So far a total of 74 cohorts have benefited from this training, with more participants slated to receive this valuable education and support in the coming months.
The initiative underscores the unwavering commitment of NEDI and IOM to empower returnees, fostering economic independence and resilience within this vulnerable population.
“As NEDI and IOM continue to roll out these critical training programmes, their impact is increasingly felt, helping to reshape the economic landscape for migrant returnees in The Gambia and contributing to the country’s broader development goals,” remarked Buba Touray, a NEDI officer.
