The Honourable Minister of Health Dr. Ahmadou Lamin Samateh over the weekend officially handed over sites for the construction of health facilities in Njau, Upper Saloum District of the Central River Region (CRR north), Nyakoi-Kerewan in the Upper River Region (URR north) and Bansang in the Central River Region (CRR south) to the respective contractors.
Accompanied by senior officials of the Ministry of Health and some members of National Health Emergency Committee (NHEC), Minister Samateh emphasised the need to strengthen our national healthy delivery system.
The construction and renovation of health facilities across The Gambia is a continuous undertaking in spite of regrettable delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The projects in Njau and Nyakoi that are funded by The Gambia Government would cost over seven million Dalasis combined.
Another important aspect of the health care delivery plan is the construction of a modern dialysis centre within the Bansang Hospital facilities in CRR. This will reduce the pressure on families travelling from all over the country to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in Banjul for kidney treatment. The dialysis centre in Bansang is also funded by The Gambia Government to a tune of five hundred thousand Dalasis.
While on the field mission, Honourable Minister Samateh and his delegation stopped at Kerr Uldeh in the Upper Saloum District of CRR to assess the progress of a new health centre under construction. They were welcomed by the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Honourable Amat Bah, a native of Kerr Uldeh, who explained that the project is sponsored by Construct Limited as part of its corporate social responsibilities.
